Thursday, March 11, 2010 The Gros-Islet Town Council is in the final stages of launching its calendar of activities in celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Gros-Islet Township.

Parliamentary representative for the Gros-Islet constituency, Honourable Lenard Montoute, says the focus this year, is celebrating the many milestones achieved by the community, and highlighting the contributions made by his constituents to the socio-economic advancement of Saint Lucia.

In so doing, Minister Montoute explains, the Gros-Islet Town Council hopes to unify the people of Gros-Islet, and bestow on them a sense of pride and belonging.

“Gros-Islet has grown tremendously in the past 25 years with a number of new communities being set up like Edge Water, Beausejour and others in Monchy, Grande Riviere, Marisule, and Corinth. We want to integrate all the residents of the communities together, to see themselves are Gros-Isletians—to work together for the collective good of the communities.”

Chairman of the Gros-Islet Town Council Ainsley Fontenelle says, among the myriad of accomplishments made by residents on behalf of the constituency, are the twinning of the town with St. Louis in Martinique in 1991, and with Lion town in southern Taiwan last month.

Other infrastructural developments within Gros Islet include the upgraded IGY Marina, and the construction of a road between the town and the Pigeon Island causeway.

“The Town of Gros-Islet has two twin partners in an effort to help enhance its development. What we're hoping to do is to invite not indigenous Gros-Isletians overseas to celebrate our 25th anniversary with us; we're also extending invitations to all residents,” President of the Gros-Islet Town Council, Ainsley Fontenelle said.

The 25th anniversary of Gros-Islet Township is set to coincide with Homecoming 2010 and the Gros-Islet Day celebrations in August.
