Wednesday, March 10, 2010 – The Folk Research Centre, FRC will be hosting a traditional Wake or Ywit jou-vey’ on the evening of Saturday 13th of March, in tribute to long-standing member of the FRC, the late Patricia Charles, who was buried last Saturday.  Executive Director of the FRC, Dr. Kentry Jn. Pierre, says Miss Charles played a tremendous role in ensuring that the FRC remained a viable organization.

He says Saturday’s activity will also be used as a platform to reignite the traditional wake which is slowly dying.

“We note that in recent times, more and more people have been asking friends to be allowed to mourn in private. So we are seeing a deterioration of that tradition of ours. The idea  is to have that wake and we want to really invite all people, members of the FRC, all people who are involved, the folk singers those involved  in arts and craft—all who have been touched by Mrs. Charles in one way or another to attend.”

Jn. Pierre says the wake provides an opportunity for people to socialize and to celebrate the life of the deceased.  Saturday’s wake or Ywit jou-vey’ begins at 6:30 at the grounds of the Folk Research Centre, at Morne Pleasant.
