Wednesday, February 11, 2009 – In the past few months the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has been receiving several calls from members of the public expressing concerns about the nature and content of music and discussions broadcast on local media.

We are taking this opportunity to remind all media houses of their responsibility to the various publics and consequently demonstrate sensitivity in the selection and broadcast of programmes/music.

At a time when there is a clarion call for the nation to gather together to stem the increase in violence, child abuse, sexual abuse, alcohol abuse and other negative practices, we trust that media houses, with its unlimited influence, will play their part in a conscious manner to contribute to the well being of our fragile society.

We are appealing to media houses to be wary at all times of the content that emanates from their stations.

We anticipate that the concerns expressed will be received in the spirit of goodwill and that all media houses will do whatever is possible to conscientiously assist our nation— both young and old.
