Monday, March 5, 2007 -- The National Emergency Management Organisation (NEMO) and the National Council of/for Persons with Disabilities [NCPD] have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that will assist both Agencies in the delivery of their mandate of preparedness and response.

The agreement strengthens the growing relationship, which started three years ago with NEMO providing information to the Council Members on disaster preparedness.

The MOU covers ground breaking areas such as:

a.      Training;

b.     Information Sharing;

c.     Provision of sign interpreters for audio/visual programs;

d.     Facilitating the translation of documents for ease of use for the visually impaired and blind [i.e. Braille, tape or large print.];

e.      Membership on appropriate National Committees;

f.       Providing Instructors to join the NEMO Instructor Cadre;

The MOU, which came into effect on February 19, 2007, and was signed by the President of the Council and the Director of NEMO.
