Wednesday, October 20, 2004 - The contestants in this year’s La Wenn Kweyol Sent Lisi Pageant were presented to the media and the public at a special press launch on Wednesday October 20th at the Folk Research Centre.

 

The names of those competing in the 2004 event, in order of appearance, are:

 

  1. Cleaticia Johnson of Belle Vue, Vieux Fort

  2. Emilie Promess of Grande Riviere, Gros Islet

  3. Ethelina Bascom of Anse la Raye

  4. Marie Rose Charley of Mon Repos

  5. Teresa Etienne of Monchy

  6. Leticia Anna Bodley of Babonneau

 

At the ceremony led by MC Hilary La Force, remarks were made by Mr. Victor Poyotte, Chairman of the Board of the Folk Research Centre (FRC) and Mr. Fred Walcott, Chief Executive Officer of Cable & Wireless, main sponsor of the event.

 

A history of the La Wenn competition was presented by Mr. Paul Lorde, who also introduced the contestants. They then drew lots for the order of appearance, after which they were treated by the FRC to a special Creole lunch.

 

The La Wenn Kweyol Sent Lisi Pageant takes place on Friday October 29th 2004 at the National Cultural Centre at 8 pm. Admission is $20. Tickets are now on sale at the FRC, Sunshine Bookstores, Y de Lima and Steve’s Barber shop.
