Thursday, March 15, 2012 – A diverse range of skilled professionals have been appointed to the Board of the Development Control Authority, Minister for Physical Development, Housing and Urban Renewal Senator Stanley Felix, recently announced.

The new board will be chaired by Accountant, Entrepreneur and former Telecoms Executive, Rudy Gurley.

The Development Control Authority is Saint Lucia’s national land use planning and conservation authority.   The DCA’s mission is “To foster Sustainable Improvement in the quality of life of all Saint Lucians, through effective integrated planning, coordination, implementation and monitoring of physical, technological, economic, environmental and social development activities.”

According to Minister Felix : “Each individual brings to the board a wealth of experience and professional knowledge that, combined, provide complimentary expertise and depth of experience to the Board giving us a truly outstanding team to take the DCA forward.   With this calibre of skills and expertise we have the greatest opportunity to develop the DCA into a strong, customer oriented organisation that is absolutely driven to serve the community with commitment, integrity and empathy.”

The minister challenged the board to ensuring that during their tenure even the smallest residential applicant will be seen and treated as an investor with money to spend.   “An application approved today has the greater economic impact than if approved next week, next month or next year.   Improved efficiency can and will impact economic growth.   Economic growth and job creation are key objectives of my government.   Economic and environmental sustainability are just as important.”

Newly appointed Chairman, Rudy Gurley stated his profound appreciation for the Minister’s expression of confidence in him, adding that the government and people of Saint Lucia can rest assured that he will approach his role with the utmost integrity, professionalism and commitment, always putting the interest of Saint Lucia first.

“Our tenure will be characterised by an ongoing review of processes, guidelines and policies to ensure they stay relevant and reflect international best practices.  Where necessary, we will make revisions and introduce new systems to facilitate businesses and individuals while meeting our planning and conservation objectives.   We expect to do this through proactive consultation with partners, stakeholders and the public.   It is my wish that the DCA will in time be seen by the public and investors alike as a partner in development, a partner to be embraced and respected and not be feared, Gurley said.
