Thursday, January 08, 2004 - The National Independence Charity Golf
Tournament is set for Saturday 21st February 2004. The tournament now into its
tenth year is part of the year long activities to mark the 25th anniversary of
Saint Lucia’s Independence. The Charity Golf Tournament is a project of the Gros-Islet
Lions Club. Chairman of the organising committee Gregory Monplaisir says the
tournament is the premier revenue earner to finance projects in the north.
Among the projects undertaken by the service club are the upgrading of
schools, scholarships for secondary school students and the provision of food
packages and meals for the poor. Monplaisir says this milestone is not only
recognition of the work of the club but also the contribution of the many
business persons who have supported over the years.
Teams taking part in the tournament are sponsored by the business community.
The organisers are hoping for wider participation especially this anniversary
year and in particular as Saint Lucia celebrates 25 years of development.
