Thursday, January 15, 2004 – The Laborie Village Council says all is
set for the observance of Saint Lucia’s 25th Anniversary of Independence. The
council is boasting of a packed programme which will open on February 3rd and
culminates on February 29th, 2004. Laborie is one of 14 communities taking
part in the decentralised programme of activities under the leadership of the
Ministry of Social Transformation, Culture and Local Government.
The council says this is an opportunity to impress on members of the community
the meaning of independence and the responsibilities which being independent
entails for a community contributing to the overall developmental goals of the
country.
The activities will open with an inter- community youth debating competition,
and will include a dress festival, a fun walk, a fund raising dinner and a
sports meet for the elderly, organised by Help-Aged South. The highlight of
the month will be the Independence Anniversary Church Service, Rally and
Family Fun Day on February 22nd Independence Day.
