Monday, February 09, 2004 - Micoud North residents are to observe the 25th
Anniversary of Saint Lucia’s Independence with a week of activities, starting
Sunday, February 15 to Independence Day on February 22nd.
Member of the organising committee Gregor Biscette, says the celebration opens
with an ecumenical service and will include debates and lectures.
Mr. Biscette says besides the observance, the programme is aimed at reuniting
residents for the purpose of advancing the development agenda of Micoud North.
He says it is for this reason that the activities are being held in all of the
communities comprising Micoud North.
He says getting people out of their immediate environment to attend an event somewhere
else, will begin the process of rebuilding a fractured community
spirit.
A lecture and debates are expected to be major events during the celebration, in
addition to a cultural explosion on Saturday, February 21 at the Patience Multi
Purpose Court at 7pm and a marathon hosted by the Mon-Repos Youth and Sports
Council on February 22, starting at 9:00 in the morning.
