By Janelle Charles

September 8, 1998 - Plans are being put in place for the establishment of a Farmers Court to deal with issues plaguing the Agricultural Industry such as of Praedial Larceny. In making the announcement the Minister of Agriculture Hon. Cassius Ellias, noted that Praedial Larceny has a de-motivating and an economically debilitating effect on the agriculture sector.

The Minister also indicated that tough new legislation would also be put in place to strengthen the Sale of Produce Act. "We’re going to have a Farmers Court. A court that responds quickly to those rascals who choose to live off the work and the hard efforts of other farmers," Ellias promised. The Minister is also urging the public to stop purchasing agricultural commodities from persons who they know have stolen these products.
