Monday, January 19, 2004 – As activities for Noble Laureate Week begins
here today Monday January 19, 2004, a number of the activities continue to
provide a forum for young persons to display their talent, and to engender a
sense of national pride. On Tuesday January 28, nine secondary schools within
district three and four will participate in the Secondary Schools’ Concert.
Programmes Officer at the Cultural Development Foundation Barbara Du Boulay
says the students are very enthusiastic about the upcoming event. “I have been
working with the schools and the teachers of the various districts and
everybody seems to be very eager, they are very enthusiastic; they are
preparing and will be prepared for Tuesday’s presentation. They will be
showcasing different art forms, dance, drama, music, skits, and some of the
works will be taken from Honourable Derek Walcott and also Sir Arthur Lewis.”
Du Boulay says students stand to increase their knowledge of local achievers
and develop an appreciation for excellence during Noble Laureate Week which
was launched on Monday evening, at the National Cultural centre.
