Thursday 29 September 2011 Expectant mothers are reassured that there will be no compromise in the health care they receive at the country's two hospitals.  This assurance came from the Minister with responsibility for health Dr. the Honourable. Keith Mondesir as he sought to allay the fears of Saint Lucians, following statements to the contrary made in media.

“There was a small problem with regards to maternity at St. Jude's and Victoria.  Since the fire, St. Jude's has had a measure of difficulty in terms of the delivery of certain services.   St. Jude's refers most of their pregnant persons on the verge of delivery to the Victoria Hospital whether it is an emergency or not, without the accompanying manpower.

“Now Saint Jude's have had the privilege, presently, of having a full time Gynaecologist. The medical team has held a meeting to determine how they are going to neutralize and stabilize the conditions that currently exist.”

According to Dr. Mondesir he has total confidence in the medical professionals within the health system and hence expresses his gratitude for their hard work and dedication.
