Wednesday 28 September 2011  The Ministry of Agriculture, Lands, Forestry and Fisheries, in collaboration with the Pesticides and Toxic Chemicals Control Board, is observing Pesticides and Toxic Chemicals Awareness Week, from September 25  to October 1,  2011.M

 

The theme for the week is: “Save Lives! Read and Understand Labels”.

 

The Ministry of Agriculture and the Pesticides and Toxic Chemicals Control Board will use the observance of the week to continue to educate all citizens of Saint Lucia on the importance of safety in the use of toxic chemicals.

 

Also the necessary measures required to effectively follow instructions on pesticides and chemical labels, in order to protect human life, and safeguard our environment and natural resource base will be highlighted.

 

Some of the activities planned for the week includes:

 

·         An address by the Hon. Ezekiel Joseph, Minister of Agriculture, Lands, Forestry and Fisheries to mark the opening of the week

·         Training activities for Agricultural Officers, Farmers, Input Suppliers and Students

·         Public Awareness programmes/ dissemination of information through the print and electronic media.
