Wednesday 4 May 2011  Saint Lucia is all set to receive fresh attention and rave reviews as the Saint Lucia Tourist Board markets the island through its music. Saint Lucian artistes and their music are being featured on a Canadian based radio show “Kaiso Rising”, thanks to a joint initiative of the Saint Lucia Tourist  Board and Alex Waithe,  a West Indian educator, producer and radio host.

Chairman of the Special Events Committee of the Saint Lucia Tourist Board, Cuthbert Didier, says the link is to ensure that we give our Saint Lucian artistes maximum exposure.

“That is in keeping with the mandate of the Saint Lucia Tourist Board in using everything national to market the island; no other festival that we have is best positioned for that but the Saint Lucia Jazz which can really became the platform for our music industry.”

Some of the artistes benefiting from this year's “Kaiso Rising” project are: Taj weekes, Babara Cadet, and Mervin Wilkinson, amongst others.    Didier took the opportunity to encourage the nation to support  the 20th Anniversary of Saint Lucia Jazz.

“In terms of the main events, we will have Gaiety, starting on Wednesday, followed by Thursday and then Friday; On Saturday and Sunday we will be at Pigeon Island.

“Pigeon Island is a beautiful outdoor venue.  And while we have some minor challenges, we are really encouraging Saint Lucians to come out amass, buy the tickets, and get ready for a fantastic jazz.”

All systems are on standby despite the weather.
