Monday, June 13, 2011 – Saint Lucia Carnival 2011 is expected to be executed at a higher level resulting from collaboration with the Saint Lucia Tourist Board (SLTB) and the Carnival Stakeholders Committee.

Fresh on the heels of the successful hosting of the historic 20th anniversary of Saint Lucia Jazz, the Tourist Board is again lending technical support to the staging of Saint Lucia Carnival 2011.

The SLTB will lend its vast expertise in event management and coordination to the newly formed Saint Lucia Carnival Stakeholders Committee—the body charged with overseeing the 2011 edition of the island’s première cultural show-piece.

Director of Tourism Louis Lewis says: “In addition to our usual marketing and promotion efforts, the SLTB is delighted to assist in managing the event. We anticipate that by lending our experience we will ensure that the sights, sounds and cultural creative genius of Saint Lucia’s carnival receive maximum local, regional, and international exposure.”

Carnival celebrations, which have already gotten under-way with the launch of various bands and tents, move into high gear later this month and will reach a climax next month with the popular parade of the bands in the streets of the capital Castries on July 18 and 19.

Observed under the theme ‘Nothing Sweeter Than Dat’, other major events for Saint Lucia Carnival 2011 include, Calypso semi finals on July 2nd, Groovy Soca Monarch July 8th, National Carnival Queen Show on July 9th, Junior Carnival on July 10th, Inter-commercial House Calypso, July 14th, Panorama July 15th, Calypso Finals on July 16th and Power Soca Monarch Finals on July 17th.

The Tourist Board says the island is prepared to welcome hundreds of Caribbean visitors and others from further afield wishing to participate or just witness the pageantry of Saint Lucia carnival.
