Wednesday, July 20, 2011 – This summer, some eighty youngsters between the ages of 7 to 17 will be engaged in an exciting initiative, as the Saint Lucia National Trust gets set to host its third annual Youth Environmental Forum.

According to Communications and Advocacy Officer for the Saint Lucia National Trust, Karetta Crooks Charles the Trust will be partnering with the Forestry Department as well as the Sustainable Development and Environmental Division………”to bring an interesting programme to the children where they get to go on exciting field trips to the forest and plant a few trees in areas where trees are needed and just to meet new friends and learn more about the environment, and the importance of environment and heritage conservation.”

The aim of the Youth Environmental Forum is to empower youth and to give them the tools needed to be more vocal about environmental issues.

The Forum is scheduled to be held both in the north and south of the island from July 25th - 29th.

This year’s theme is “Forests for People” and this is in keeping with the United Nations’ Observance of International Year of the Forest.
