08 December 2011 – Prime Minister Honourable Dr Kenny Anthony is expected to return to Saint Lucia on Saturday evening following his participation in the Fourth Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and the Republic of Cuba.

 

While in Port of Spain Trinidad for the Summit, the prime minister participated in discussions focussing on five broad areas namely: sustainable development, CARICOM-Cuba relations, regional integration, Haiti and security.

 

Prime Minister Anthony also discussed with the Cubans the matter of medical treatment of Saint Lucians in Cuba over the next few years.

 

Saint Lucia`s delegation at the fourth CARICOM-Cuba summit also included  Minister for External Affairs, International Trade and Civil Aviation, Honourable Alva Baptiste.

 

The summit was preceded by a meeting of the foreign ministers of both governments on Wednesday.

 

Cuba and the CARICOM member countries have enjoyed a long and fruitful relationship.

 

Deputy Prime Minister Honourable Phillip J Pierre is acting as Prime Minister until Prime Minister Anthony’s return to state.
