Friday 15 October 2010  Prime Minister Honourable Stephenson King had tough words for the criminals when he spoke to the media about government’s response to the upsurge in violent crimes in the country.

His comments came after visiting the family of the eight-year old girl who was murdered in her sleep by gunmen who also shot the mother multiple times about her body Tuesday morning in La Clery.

“This country cannot and will not be turned into a war zone. We will not tolerate any type of gang-on-gang violence in Saint Lucia. We will not tolerate criminals declaring war on peaceful and loving Saint Lucians. I will not tolerate it as prime minister and as MP for Castries North. I will leave no stone unturned in dealing with the criminals.”

Prime Minister King while expressing his sympathies to the family renewed his government’s commitment to reducing crime in the country.  He pledged government’s support to the family and informed the public that government’s efforts in the fight against crime will not be limited to the shores of Saint Lucia.

“Such criminal acts will not be tolerated and government will continue to beef up its efforts to deal with the crime situation, if we do not have the capacity in Saint Lucia we will find the capacity to deal with the situation. As a government we will spend any amount of money which needs to be spent to deal with the criminals—they will be stopped.”

The government of Saint Lucia has already secured the services of Israeli soldiers, in addition to British and American police to combat the crime problem in the country.
