Monday 29 November 2010  A donation of cricket gear was recently made to the Ministry of Youth and Sports by Sandals Resorts International, to assist that ministry’s youth cricket Programme.   During the handing over ceremony, Sandals Resorts and Beaches Regional Director for the Eastern Caribbean, Jeremy Jones said the ministry, was able to provide significant technical support over the last ten years by providing us with the ability to host the cricket academy including the provision of transportation for the kids taking part in the academy.

“We’ve had a foundation going now supporting the cricket academy for the last ten years in Saint Lucia and coming into the eleventh year we’re going to see some new bright and exciting things happening with the cricket academy, here in Saint Lucia.”

Minister for Youth & Sports, Honourable Lenard Montoute, in acknowledging the   donation announced the beneficiaries of the new gear.

“I think that it will be fitting for this gear go toward the under fifteen program of the Ministry of Youth and Sports. We now have what I consider to be a strong partnership with Sandals in the development of Cricket. I want to extend our appreciation and gratitude to Mr Low, whom I am told, is the benefactor who donated this gear to Sandals who passed it on to us.”

The donated gear includes helmets, bats, balls, and batting pads. The Ministry of Youth and Sports, as well as the Sandals Foundation, is of the thinking that the donation will go a long way in aiding upcoming Saint Lucian cricketers.
