Monday 17 May 2010 – The Ministry of Youth & Sports and the Government of Saint Lucia salutes Lavern Spencer on the achievement of her latest high jump record of 1.98 meters. This new personal, national and Caribbean record was recorded on Saturday, May 8th, 2010 during an Invitational Meet in Athens, Georgia - USA. This new record now places Levern as the second best high jumper in the world for this year.

This latest feat by Lavern should serve to motivate and inspire young people to aspire to the heights of excellence. Lavern’s achievements stand as a testimony to our nation’s youth that dignity, respect and success can be attained through sacrifice, hard work and dedication.

The Ministry of Youth & Sports has provided support to Ms. Spencer in her sporting pursuits through the National Elite Athlete Program, which is designed to make financial and technical support available to elite athletes like Lavern.

Government and all Saint Lucians continue to monitor the progress of this young Saint Lucian athlete. Our nation looks forward with great anticipation and expectation that Lavern will continue to register world class performances as she leaps to the highest heights of excellence in her sporting career.
