Monday, March 15, 2010 The Ministry of the Public Service is continuing to drive efforts to enhance efficiency and productivity in the government service.

In this regard permanent secretaries and other senior managers in the public service were engaged in a “Talent Management Workshop” on Monday, which was organised by the Ministry of the Public Service.

Minister responsible for the public service, Honourable Lenard Montoute, says the workshop is critical to the development of the human resource which is the driving force of the public service.

“At the Ministry of the Public Service we believe that the public sector and by extension the entire nation of Saint Lucia can only be successful especially in this globally challenging times, if we are administered and led by competent representatives and effectively equipped people in the government service.”

The permanent secretaries and other senior managers attending the talent management workshop also focuses on designing a unique talent management programme for Saint Lucia's public service.

Minister Montoute says the aim is to ensure that there are competent individuals who can carry on the mantle of management within the public service when the present crop of managers retire.

“The Saint Lucia Public Sector, as with most other organisations, struggle to align its talent management under one cohesive strategy. This has been a considerable challenge for quite some time. I am hoping that this talent workshop will assist us in the realisation of this critical cohesion in the very near future.”

The talent management workshop was organised with assistance from the Commonwealth Secretariat.
