Wednesday , June 2, 2010– As the tourism industry gets ready to showcase the Caribbean’s best during the upcoming Caribbean Week in New York, Saint Lucia is geared to capture centre stage and showcase its unique Creole flavor at the affair. The event is slated for June 6 – 12 in New York, USA.

Organized by the Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO), as part of celebrations commemorating Caribbean Heritage Month, Caribbean Week serves to provide a taste of the Caribbean to the world. Saint Lucia is expected to create quite a stir at the Caribbean Media Market Place, showcasing authentic Saint Lucian products that feature the uniqueness of the destination.
Local tourism officials in attendance at the event will inform hundreds of delegates and indeed the world, of the many new and improved tourism offerings from Saint Lucia as they participate in another highpoint of the event – the Caribbean Meeting and Incentive Trade Showcase.

Headed by Tourism Minister Allen Chastanet, the local delegation will join SLTB representatives based in the US and will include Vice President of Marketing and Sales Nerdin St. Rose. The team will also take the opportunity to highlight several of the island’s premier cultural attractions chief among them is the soon to be stage Saint Lucia Carnival. According to St. Rose, “our efforts will indeed complement those already underway by the 2010 Homecoming Committee aimed at getting more people from the Caribbean Diaspora and US; the largest concentration of which is in New York, to return home and participate in an array of activities and stay on for carnival.”

“With increased flights to Saint Lucia from New York with America Airlines and Jet Blue and from Atlanta via Delta, Minister Chastanet says “we certainly have good reasons to celebrate.”
Saint Lucia will garner increased publicity when two of its renowned chefs; Chef Conrad and Chef Bobo thrill and excite the taste buds of patrons at two high-end department stores. Chef Conrad will display his culinary mastery of local cuisine before scores of onlookers at Bloomingdale’s on Thursday 10 June whilst Chef Bobo will drizzle patrons shopping at retail giant Macy’s on Saturday June 12.

Caribbean Week in New York is a week-long programme that brings the diverse and appealing flavors of the Caribbean to New York City. Organized by the CTO, Caribbean Week in New York brings together the most influential policy makers, marketing professionals and tourism industry officials to interact and discuss both tourism and investment opportunities in the region.
