Wednesday, January 6, 2010 - Dear Prospective Media Studies Student:

From the first day we opened the doors at the Monroe College St. Lucia Campus we have been receiving inquiries about media studies courses. The demands for media qualifications continue to increase and we are introducing a Certificate in Media in March 2010. This is just the beginning.

To obtain the Certificate in Media, students will be required to complete seven (7) related courses (21 college credits) and their pre-requisites. Graduates can use their certificates to enhance their current careers or build new ones. It is ideal for persons already working in media related fields ranging from advertising and marketing, non-profit management and media research, to media advocacy and education. Monroe’s Certificate can also be your stepping stone to future studies towards a bachelor’s degree in media, for example.

Flexibility and interdisciplinary study are fundamental to the success of this programme and that is why you can choose from a range of courses in the Monroe College Courses Catalogue to suit your interests and courses that fit your goals. Classes are held in late afternoons, evenings, and weekends to accommodate the schedules of working. Some courses may be taken online.

The curriculum is very flexible. There are three required courses which orient you to the field and prepare you for the work ahead; three Liberal Arts or Open Elective courses; and a media production or research project where you identify the issues and practices in media that you want to explore.

I am inviting you to an information session on Friday, January 15, 2010 at 5.00pm at Monroe College, Barnard Hill, Castries. Feel free to pass this good news to members of your staff, your media colleagues and friends.

Please call me directly at (758) 456-3222 (Jerry George) or email: jgeorge@monroecollege.edu to reserve a place; if I am unavailable you may leave your name and contact information with our receptionist.

Thank you for your interest and consideration.

Jerry E.M. George
