Friday 10 December 2010 The second major national activity for the festive season is scheduled to take place this holiday weekend.  The popular annual Festival of Lights, will be held on Sunday 12th December, from 7:00 p.m. on the Castries Waterfront near the NIC building.

The Cultural Development Foundation, which produces the event, is promising the public an evening of joy and uplifting performances geared to strengthen our community spirit in this period of recovery from the difficulties of the past months.

The programme will include the parade of lanterns from this year’s lantern competition that was held last Saturday at the National Cultural Centre.  The winning lanterns will be announced and displayed on the night.

A novel feature on the programme this year is expected to be the release of special lanterns into the night sky.  Members of the public are invited to participate in the lights display by carrying a symbolic item that gives light.

As usual there will be a variety of performances with an emphasis on the spirit of Christmas.  Among them will be Special Blend, Blaize Pascal, Linda Chocolate Berthier, Les Danceurs Traditionelle, the Cecilian Rays, The Silver Shadow Dance Academy, Jeff ‘Pelay’ Elva and Jennifer Gaston, and some surprise performers.  And coming out fresh from inspiring performances at the National Festival of Carols in Babonneau last Sunday, the public can expect a similar treat from the Royal Saint Lucia Police Band, and the School of Music (South) Choir.

The Festival of Lights is being held under the distinguished patronage of the Governor General, Dame Pearlette Louisy.  There will be remarks from government officials, and prayers of Hope, Thanksgiving and Peace by members of the Saint Lucian Christian Council.
