Thursday, February 18, 2010 The ministry of education says all is in place for the hosting of the National Youth Rally on Independence Day.

Saint Lucia youth will be in the spotlight on Monday February 22, when the Independence Committee presents the National Youth Rally. For the first time in 31 years, the event will be held at the La-Clery playing field.

The rally will be held immediately following the Independence parade and will feature schools from around the island.

Minister for Education and Culture, Honourable Arsene James says he is looking forward to the event.

“I am very much excited about the National Youth Rally which takes place on Monday, February 22—our Independence Day. As has been the norm in part years we are going to have a big rally which will take place this year at the La Clery playing field directly after the independence Parade. This rally will include students from all schools within our eight districts.”

The National Youth Rally has been one of the highlights of the independence celebrations for many years.

Minister James says Monday’s rally is designed to showcase the talents of the nation’s youth.

“It's independence, so we are going to feature the talents of our students. However, we do not want to make the activity very long, so we are going start from 8AM with the Independence Parade and followed immediately by the Youth Rally. We invite all parents and citizens to come out and witness these exciting events.”

In additional to several cultural performances and the display of youth talent, the rally will also feature speeches from several officials including prime minister Honourable Stephenson King.

Education minister Honourable Arsene James, will deliver the Independence Day address.
