Tuesday September 29, 2009 – Members of the Public who had already secured appointments with Saint Jude Hospital are being asked to come forward with a view to keeping their appointments.

Acting Nursing Director Cheriana Philip says the hospital is ready to honour its appointments in keeping with its greatest endeavour at this time, which, as much as possible, is to return to normal operations.

“Presently we've had 12 patients, our medical and surgical are combined; we've had a total of 12 admissions in this area. At the maternity wing we have had a total of 7 deliveries. We also do the OBGYN Services, in that wing. In the Paediatric wing we've had five admissions. We want to inform persons that we do admissions for acute care, and we only do observations—persons who are not so critical.”

She says the hospital has been able to successfully get its outpatient services on stream, much to the delight of the local Vieux-Fort Community that do not relish a long trip to the north for minor medical attention.

“We operate two clinics per day. The areas are already structured for such clinics. On a daily basis we see approximately 70 patients. Those services started on Monday and our receptionists are working tirelessly to call persons who have appointments to be present, so we can continue the quality care of our patients.”

Meantime, the hospital is working towards putting in place a structure to roll out its H1N1 plan so as to adequately deal with patients with flu-like symptoms.
