Tuesday, October 27, 2009 –  Minister for Commerce, Industry and Consumer Affairs, Senator Honourable Tessa Mangal, says the new JetBlue Airways service into Saint Lucia, could only augur well for the business sector in particular.

Miss Mangal says the new service will provide business people with an opportunity to get more affordable travel.

“I think with the advent of this aircraft, JetBlue, and the fact that they are providing three services to Saint Lucia per week, will provide persons with the opportunity to  come over here to do business with their counterparts, and be able to get in and out within a short space of time, which is important for business people who just need to get out for a couple of days.”

At least one locally based international university has welcomed the introduction of JetBlue Airways into Saint Lucia.

Dr. Sanjeev Nischal of Spartan Medical University, who travelled on the JetBlue Airways inaugural flight on Monday, said the flight schedule provides a wonderful advantage for the students.

“They can leave at 4 p.m. from Saint Lucia and be in New York by 8:30 in the evening. Apart from that, students are looking for a route to get to New York as quickly as possible.  Many students  fly from New York to Saint Lucia so I think it will be a good service for them.”

Jet Blue Airways will be providing a non-stop service between New York and Saint Lucia on Sundays, Mondays and Thursdays.
