Friday, November 13, 2009 Heads of Government of the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS), are getting ready to gather for the 50th Meeting of the OECS Authority, taking place on Wednesday, November 18, in Anguilla.
The Heads are expected to deal with a packed agenda, including matters pertaining to the establishment of the OECS Economic Union. Communications officer at the Saint Lucia based OECS Secretariat, Raymond O'Keiffe, says the gathering of minds will offer Heads yet another opportunity to assess the readiness of member states, for further regional integration .
We have had public consultations on the OECS Economic Union launched in all independent states of the OECS and spokespersons workshops are now being held not only with persons involved in the public and private sector but also with media personnel. The 50th OECS Authority meeting, is expected to be a fitting send off for Chief Minister of Anguilla, Hon. Osborne Fleming, who has announced plans to retire from active politics, in 2010.
It will also welcome a new head to the family in the person of the new Chief of Montserrat, the Hon. Reuben T. Mede, O'Keiffe said.
It promises to be the most covered OECS event so far, because along with media personnel from the OECS being there to cover the opening ceremony, at least 14 stations along the OECS News link network will join in a live simulcast of this historic OECS Authority meeting.
The 50th Meeting of the OECS Authority ends on November 20. |
