Monday, November 30, 2009 –   The Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation will be hosting the first annual Tourism Industry Advisory Council Summit on Friday and Saturday, December 04 and 05, 2009, at the NIC's conference room.  In addition, on Friday December 4 , Careers in Culinary Tourism will be showcased on the compound of the NIC. This initiative is in collaboration with the Saint Lucia Hotel and Tourism Association, National Youth Skills Development, Sir Arthur Lewis Community College's Hospitality Division and Monroe College and aims to demonstrate career opportunities in this emerging niche sector. The theme for the exhibition is “Explore the opportunities in tourism”.

 

Monroe College, Sir Arthur Lewis Community College and the National Skills Development Centre will conduct culinary and bartending presentations and also provide relevant information regarding training opportunities available to students interested in the tourism industry.

 

Additionally, Chef Orlando Satchel, renowned Chef and Executive Chef at Ladera Resort in Soufriere, will be preparing and presenting various dishes that incorporate local ingredients such as cocoa and various local seasonings.

 

Other industry personnel will be present to provide career guidance to patrons of the exhibition.

 

This exhibition will be opened to forms three to five 5 students islandwide and is scheduled for Friday December 4, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.  in the NIC  parking area.

 

Besides many give-aways, in order to facilitate the attendance of secondary school students, the ministry of tourism will contribute a two hundred dollar voucher towards the cost of transportation.

 

The Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation therefore wishes to encourage secondary school students to attend this event.
