Wednesday, 17 June 2009 – Governor General Her Excellency Dame Pearlette Louisy has announced the list of twelve Saint Lucians to be honoured in recognition of the birthday of Her Majesty the Queen. A reception to make the announcement was held at Government House last Saturday.

 

Edwin Laurent, OBE, will receive Companion of the Order of Saint Michael and Saint George (CMG) for services to international relations and diplomacy.

 

To be Ordinary Officers of the Civil Division of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (OBE), are Eldridge Stephens, for services to the community and small business development and Cosmos Damian Richardson, for services to the nation and the public sector

 

To be Ordinary Members of the Civil Division of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire M.B.E. are Jeff “Pele” Elva, for services to music and the disabled community, Horace Denis Walters, for services to the Fisheries sector, Monsignor Justin Albert Barthelmy, for services to the Catholic Church in Saint Lucia and Joan Stowe, for services to the tourism industry.

 

The British Empire Medal (Civil Division) will be bestowed on Gilbert John Popo, for services to agriculture, David Hutchinson, for services to tourism and the transportation sector, Benedicte

 

 

Nelson, for services to the Scout Movement; Verena Marcelle Felecien, for services to sports in the field of women’s cricket; and Martha Biscette, for services to the Girl Guides Movement.

 

The awards will officially be presented to the twelve recipients later this year.
