Friday, June 12, 2009 – The “Seminar on Trade Related Assistance in the Caribbean Region”, which is co-organized by the International Cooperation and Development Fund (also known as TaiwanICDF) and the Agency for International Trade Information and Cooperation (Known as AITIC) will be held at the Dolphins Conference Center of Bay Gardens Beach Resort in Rodney Bay from 15 to 17 Jun 2009. Hon. Lenard Montoute, Acting Prime Minister, and Hon. Rufus Bousquet, Minister of External Affairs & International Trade, will welcome overseas participants at the opening ceremony scheduled for 9:30 a.m. on 15 June. After the opening, Dr. Esparanza Durán, Executive Director of AITIC and Dr. Pai-Po Lee, Deputy Secretary General of TaiwanICDF, will co-host a press interview to introduce the approaches of their organization to promote trade related assistance for the region.
The purpose of the mentioned seminar is to create an opportunity for around 35 selected government officials and professionals from 15 different countries, including St. Lucia, Dominican Republic, St. Kitts & Nevis, Haiti, St. Vincent & the Grenadines, Belize, Grenada, Dominica, Jamaica, Suriname, Guyana, Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Venezuela, and USA, to exchange their views regarding developing international cooperative mechanisms in the Caribbean Region for trade-related assistance and trade in services focusing on the areas of tourism development, women’s empowerment and trade facilitation, as well as sharing their national experiences and achievements in the mentioned areas.
The International Cooperation and Development Fund (TaiwanICDF) is an institution which aims at promoting international cooperation for development and providing appropriate assistance to those needed countries. The Agency for International Trade Information and Cooperation is an international intergovernmental organization based in Switzerland.
The AITIC was founded in 1998 and transformed into an IGO in 2002 in order to get its 60 participating members involved in the multinational economic and trading system with the mandate to build capacity and technical assistance. |
