Contact: NEMO

Monday June 15, 2009 - On June 11 The World Health Organization raised the swine flu alert to its highest level, saying the H1N1 virus had spread to enough countries to be considered a global pandemic. Increasing the alert to Phase 6 does not mean that the disease is deadlier or more dangerous than before, just that it has spread to more countries.

The Centre for Disease Control [CDC] recently released an interim guide on Day and Residential Camps in Response to Human Infections with the Novel Influenza A (H1N1) Virus. With the rapid approach of the August holidays the NEMO Secretariat wishes to encourage Camp Planners to consider reviewing their medical support for Camp with in the context of the North American Influenza [referred to as the Swine Flu]

As of this date Saint Lucia has no reported cases of the influenza but that his situation could change with little or no warning.

Guidelines may be obtained from the NEMO Secretariat or http://www.cdc.gov/h1n1flu/camp.htm
