Wednesday,  June 24, 2009 –  The Ministry of Communications, Works, Transport and Public Utilities will, as of Friday, undertake the first phase of the Rehabilitation Project of the Allan Bousquet Highway, from Choc all the way through to the  Babonneau gap.

The project, which is been undertaken by the company Asphalt and Mining, will be supervised by the Ministry. Project Officer Mary Patrice Augustin says the ministry conducted a community meeting in Babbonneau recently.

“The purpose of this meeting is as a follow-up to several announcements we have made, to inform the public of two road closures that we are going to have, primarily for the construction of two culverts on the Allan Bousquet Highway. The first one is near the Cocomo Disco and the second is near the LUCELEC Power Station along the Union stretch,” Ms. Augustin said.

Motorists and commuters using this route are being warned to be mindful that the road is closed from Friday, June 26th until Monday, June 29, and is to be continued the following weekend when the project resumes.

“We will not be able to have vehicular traffic along the roads during the construction to facilitate expediency of the project, and because of the danger vehicular traffic would present, if we were to construct the road in half widths. We will have to divert traffic in order to close the road for this construction,” she said.

The road, she said, will be opened from 6 a.m. on weekdays until the completion of the road works.
