Thursday, 16 April 2009 – The National Community Foundation (NCF) has set a 250-thousand dollar target, as plans progress steadily for the staging of its largest fund raising activity—the National Telethon—this coming Sunday.

The telethon gives the corporate sector as well as individuals the opportunity, on that day, to pledge monies in contribution to the work of the Foundation. In 2007 the NCF raised some 222-thousand dollars from the event. NCF Executive Director Juliana Alfred is confident the Foundation can top that figure at this year's showing.

“We are extremely confident that we will be able to meet that 250-thousand dollar mark, particularly because we’ve already had, so far, commitments from a number of corporate entities to make pledges. For example we have M and G, ECFH, CMMB, Renwick and Company, LUCELEC, LIME and Consolidated Foods,” said the NCF Head.

The 2009 Telethon, Ms. Alfred said, is being staged as a family event, with trimmed admission fees—ten dollars for adults and one dollar for children under twelve. She says patrons can look forward to a more diverse line-up.

“We want to ensure that we are targeting the various St. Lucian audiences. So for those into dance, we have something for you. For those into comedy and fashion or poetry, we also have something for you, and of course we have lots of music,” she said.

The line-up for April 19 includes St. Lucia School of Music, Alpha ,Zionomi, Luther Francois, Elra Ermay ,Christy Lights Academy, Breeze Fevrier, Sally Elwyn, Helen Folk Dancers, Silver Shadow Dancers, Ken Hardy & Soul Dreads ,Writers Forum, Linus Modest, Ras Isley, Stephen Dantes ,Hilary La-Force, Brandon, Lenny Deneb, Alpha, Amaté, Semi Francis, Q-Shan Dea, Minele, T C Brown, Nintus, Teddyson, Delonia Joseph, Stacy, Tu-Ché, Trish, Shayne Ross, Emrand Henry, Ricky T, Sugarcane Band, ASAP Band, Transfix Band, Linus Modest and Ras Isley.

During the 2006-2007 period, telethon funds allowed the NCF to provide the following support Health: $134,342.00, Scholarships: $226,635.00, Youth at risk: $16,646.00, Persons with Disabilities $40, 192.00, Older Persons $11,763.00 and Homeless Persons $19,483.00.

The event which begins at 2p.m. on Sunday 18th April, will be broadcast live by the National Television Network (NTN).
