Wednesday,  October 8, 2008 –  The east coast village of Micoud is preparing to host an authentic and high quality experience for Jounen Kweyol festivities this year. The village is one of four (4) communities recognized by the Folk Research Centre as official venues for Jounen Kweyol activities.

 

A broad-based Planning and Organising Committee is spearheading efforts aimed at ensuring a quality experience for patrons. The committee comprises representatives of a number of sectors including vendors, fishers, farmers, the police, medical services, local schools and the Micoud Development Foundation, which is providing institutional support for the planning process.

 

The committee has held a number of meetings to date and has formulated an impressive plan, which includes activities leading up to October 26th (the date of festivities) and Jounen Kweyol itself.

Attractions for the day will include: a diversity of Kweyol foods and drinks as well as a range of stage cultural performances and spontaneous activities throughout the duration of the festivities.

 

A number of fringe events will also take place in Micoud in the days leading up to Jounen Kweyol. These include:

  1.  Micoud Secondary School – Wenn ek Wa Kweyol, Saturday, October 18th, 2008.

  2. Micoud Primary School – Wenn ek Wa Kweyol, Sunday October 19th, 2008.

  3. Festen Bo Lanmen – Saturday, October 18th, 2008; and

  4. Vilaj Kweyol Anse Ger, Micoud – Sunday, October 19th, 2008.   

 

Micoud village Jounen Kweyol this year promises to be a full cultural and educational experience which is based on the traditions and lifestyles of Micoudians. The Micoud Village Jounen Kweyol Committee is working hard to ensure that all persons who visit the beautiful east coast village will come away with an enjoyable and informative experience.

 

The Micoud Village Jounen Kweyol Committee has adopted a sub-theme for Jounen Kweyol festivities in the village, which reads: “Jounen Kweyol Kay dou an Micoud”
