Team Saint Lucia

Team Saint Lucia

Thursday, 27 November 2008 – A Saint Lucia team of three has emerged overall winners of the Bible Society of the Eastern Caribbean’s Students of Heroes Gallery Quiz Competition, held in Barbados.

The team—which included Nadege Francis of the Vieux Fort Comprehensive, Rosannna Marshall of the Micoud Secondary and Hadiah Venner of the St. Joseph’s convent—emerged victorious after placing second in the semi-final leg held in Dominica.

It was a sweet victory to a long journey, which started with the local round in July, where the team was selected.

“We practiced a lot. We trained on Saturdays and met together in Micoud and Castries, and so the victory was very sweet,” team member Hadiah Venner.

Hadiah Venner, who along with Nadege Francis, received an ipod each for their efforts.  Their team member Rosanna Marshall received a laptop, after being named Outstanding Quizzer of the finals.

The team was managed and prepped by their coach, Donna Louis, who expressed her satisfaction of the team’s performance and all the hard work put into ensuring a victory.

“We had a one-day competition on Monday and some other events, and the Saint Lucia team came first in all these events.  I was very proud of all of them, because we met on Saturdays. We had to be in contact through the internet, since they are from three different schools,” said Louis, who is also a teacher of the Micoud Secondary School.

The team won the competition, by some 20 points, over Saint Vincent and Grenadines, which came in second.  Antigua and Barbuda came in third.
