Friday,  November 14, 2008 –  A Tripartite consultation on the Labour Code was scheduled for October 20th-21st, 2008.  The St Lucia Trade Union Federation requested that the consultation be postponed for a further two weeks to allow  time to adequately prepare to respond to the concerns raised.

The Federation indicated that should the consultation be held, they would refuse to recognize any decision coming out of the consultation.

The National Workers Union also requested that the consultation be postponed.

Tentative dates of November 10th – 11th had been set which also had to be postponed as the National Workers Union had promised to meet the  Federation of Unions and report back to the Ministry before the  said consultation.

A meeting is being arranged between the National Workers Union and the Federation of Trade Unions before bringing all parties together.

The Ministry of Labour, Information and Broadcasting stands poised and ready to engage social partners in discussions which would lead towards the finalization and implementation of the Labour Code.
