Monday, July 7, 2008 – Saint Lucia Carnival 2008 dubbed 'Carnival 2KGreat,’ has once again attracted the participation of neighbouring French Caribbean territories. Tourist Board representatives recently returned to the island with news that thirteen French bands will be part of the revelry later this month.

The Tourist Board's Public and Visitor Relations Manager Kirby Allain described this continuing relationship, as quite favourable for the growth and popularity of the carnival product.

“Our Marketing Manager Ian Herman, along with a Marketing Officer Donna Compton, are back from a few days of promotions in Martinique and Guadeloupe, and coming out of that trip we understand that seven bands from Martinique and six bands from Guadeloupe will make a commitment to join in our carnival festivities,” he said.

Mr. Allain underscored the interest of Caribbean nationals in Saint Lucia Carnival which he says provides good business for the private sector.

“It also means that forward bookings for the ferry L' Express Des Isles are looking very good; they are booked solid for that week of the 18th - 22nd for carnival in Saint Lucia. That augurs well for arrivals into the country so we know that our efforts are paying off. In the direction of airlift, we know there is some activity there. It’s not as great as we would like to see but we believe that participation by the French islands will increase the number for us,” Allain said.

Robust marketing promotions are also ongoing in Barbados and Trinidad and Tobago. Saint Lucia Carnival will comprise of twelve adult bands, eight junior bands, and thirteen visiting French bands. This will be preceded by eight J' Ouvert bands taking to the streets on Monday, 21st July.
