Head of Certification, Betty Combie issues certificate to Joanne Arthur of J.I. Agro Processing.

Head of Certification, Betty Combie issues certificate to Joanne Arthur of J.I. Agro Processing.

Tuesday, February 5, 2008 – The Saint Lucia Bureau of Standards (SLBS) continues its drive to promote and encourage standards for health and safety by issuing its first Certificate of Food Hygiene for the year.

J.I. Agro Processing, a local company producing coconut-based products, is the proud recipient of the SLBS certificate.

The Certificate of Food Hygiene is part of the SLBS Food Certification Programme which assesses hygiene and sanitation practices/processes in the preparation of food, particularly ready-to-eat foods. The assessment is carried out using the national standard, the Code of Practice for General Principles of Food Hygiene.

SLBS issues the Certificate of Food Hygiene as written assurance that food products are manufactured under safe and hygienic conditions. The certificate is valid for one year and is accepted by the major supermarkets who are the main clients of local food suppliers. The SLBS Food Certification Programme is open to all food handlers and processors who wish to certify their food manufacturing processes. Further details are available at the Saint Lucia Bureau of Standards.
