Monday,  December 15, 2008 –  The Caribbean Healthy Lifestyles Project - St. Lucia Chapter, in collaboration with the Department of Youth and Sports, will be holding a three (3) day workshop this week at the Ave Marie School in Castries. This event is targeted at recruiting young persons from around the island into the club. In addition to the current club members, more than 30 recruits are scheduled to participate in this very exciting and fun-filled workshop.

Participants are guaranteed to leave with memories for a lifetime and a longing for more. Current members of the club will also be assessed for graduation to advanced stages of the C-HLP youth leaders certification programme.

The C-HLP Saint Lucia Chapter was launched in January 13, 2007. It is a mechanism for sustainability of the C-HLP mission which is “to increase awareness and appreciation among youth, as regards the benefits of maintaining a healthy mental, physical, emotional and spiritual lifestyle; and to provide them with the necessary skills and competence needed to create more positive adolescent role models in the society”.

The C-HLP exemplifies how sports can be used as a vehicle to develop and change lives. C-HLP also focuses on educating youth in specific areas that are relevant to succeeding in today’s society.

The workshop will cover topics such as self management, effective communication, event planning, sports not drugs, HIV/AIDS / Kicking AIDS Out activities, as well as techniques for the planning and delivery of presentations.

The workshop starts on Wednesday, December 17, 2008 at 9:30 AM. Lunch will be provided for all 50 participants. All are required to bring along a notebook, a pen/pencil and an open and intuitive mindset.
