Friday,  November 2, 2007 –  The Department of Labour Relations  has once again issued an invitation to agricultural workers who are interested in participating in the Canada/Caribbean Seasonal Agricultural Workers Programme. The application period opened from November 01st  and will conclude on March 31st, 2008.

Labour Commissioner McStephen Aubertin  says the programme  has been established in the region for several  years, dating back to the 1950's.  It facilitates the temporary migration of Caribbean and Mexican agricultural workers into Canada to meet fruit, vegetable and horticulture growers’ demand .

During that period every year  the Department engages itself in a recruitment and selection  exercise to secure  commitments from Saint Lucians who are desirous of working on agricultural farms in Ontario, Canada. This programme has been going on for a very long time  and at this particular  juncture Saint Lucia has 165 workers now  employed on farms throughout Ontario, Canada.”

The programme is being administered  by the Eastern Caribbean Liaison Service and Saint Lucian  Mr. Egbert Lionel is responsible for the  administration  of  the OECS countries involved in the programme.

Interested persons can contact the Department of Labour for further information about the programme.
