Tuesday, June 12, 2007 – The National Development Corporation -NDC located in Castries has opened a sub office in Vieux-Fort called NDC South. The opening comes after months of preparation and the realization that the corporation needed a solid presence in the south. The National Development Corporation is Saint Lucia's principal agency for the promotion of economic development.

In citing the reasons for the southern extension the NDC's Communications and Special Events Officer, John Emmanuel said the Corporation has been vested with just about six thousand acres
of land, the majority of that being in Vieux-Fort. “In fact two-thirds of that is located within the southern portion of the island, therefore it was only natural that a southern office that literary incorporates a property sales unit be set up to oversee that process,” Emmanuel added.

Over the past few weeks the National Development Corporation has been engaged in the recruiting of a cadre of young Saint Lucians, to work in close collaboration with its head office. They will be responsible for ensuring that all the services provided by the Corporation are extended in the south.

NDC South is located within the Gablewoods South Shopping Mall. The National Development Corporation currently manages seven industrial estates containing thirty two factory shells and overseas the island's largest duty free shopping facility at Point Seraphine.
