Thursday, June 28, 2007 – Acting Prime Minister & Minister for Labour Relations, Hon. Stephenson King, in accordance with Section 3, Subsections 2 and 5 of the Essential Services Act Chapter 18:12 of the Revised Laws of Saint Lucia 2001 has again moved to settle the ongoing dispute between the Seamen, Waterfront and General Workers Trade Union and the Saint Lucia Electricity Services Limited – LUCELEC.


In a freshly gazetted order date June 28, 2007, the minister is making yet another attempt to reconcile the matter between the parties.


The minister anticipates that the President of the Union, will according to the Act, submit names of 2 nominees one of whom will be selected to represent the Union's interest on the Tribunal. Upon the full composition of the Tribunal, government expects the existing disagreement to be brought to a speedy and amicable conclusion.


The acting prime minister will address the nation on the unresolved matter and government's moves to arrive at a solution, in a telecast scheduled for tomorrow evening at 8 p.m.
