Tuesday, April 3, 2007 – As works on the Castries Gros Islet Highway move into another phase the Vigie Roundabout will receive attention this weekend and motorists are being asked to cooperate and take heed in the change of traffic direction.

As the contractors move to have this roundabout completed by May 2007, the area currently being utilized by northbound and southbound traffic will be closed to all vehicular traffic on Sunday April 8th
Motorists will now have to use the opposite side of the roundabout heading into Castries or heading north. Whilst this detour will cause some delays in the flow of traffic, the Ministry of Communications, Works, Transport and Public Utilities is encouraging motorists to make use of the alternative routes when travelling to Castries and further south as well as when traversing to the north of the island.

Motorists travelling to Castries from Gros Islet can divert into Corinth or Union, travel through Balata and use the Bocage or Morne Du Don roads into Castries.

If travelling beyond Castries, motorists can use the Bocage into Trois Piton and continue through the Morne through Deglos to get into Bexon.

Northbound traffic can use the La Panse, Morne Du Don or Bocage roads then onto Balata through Union or Corinth and then onto their destinations.

The Vigie Roundabout is the last of the three roundabouts to be completed as part of the Castries/Gros Islet Highway Road Improvement Project (Phase 1). Other aspects of the project which are currently being undertaken include four walkovers, concrete medians, bus stops and bus shelters.
