Wednesday, June 7, 2006 – Discussions are currently being held between relevant agencies within the Governments of Saint Lucia and Cuba to establish the procedures and conditions through which the opportunities for nursing training will be accessed.

All details on eligibility requirements and the application process and information related to travel for successful applicants will be announced shortly. Interested persons will also be provided with information on the local agency responsible for processing applications.

Prime Minister Dr. Kenny Anthony has said that he is extremely heartened and gratified by the tremendous public response to the offer of training by the Cuban Government, but noted that the appropriate administrative procedures must be completed in order to ensure the successful implementation of the programme.

Last week, the Government of Cuba offered to train three hundred Saint Lucians in nursing, in order to address the dwindling stock of local nurses largely due to migration.
