Thursday, April 6, 2006 – The Saint Lucia Jubilee Trust Fund is continuing to foster the arts through its latest collaboration with actor and playwright Dr. Michael Gilkes Dr. Gilkes is presenting the one man play “The Last of the Red men” at the Folk Research Centre on Friday April 8th, 2006.

Trustee of the Jubilee Trust Fund Mr. John Robert Lee says the production which is a forerunner to the observance of Guyana's 40th Anniversary in May will keep the theatre scene alive.

“ And some of us from Jubilee Trust Fund got talking with Mr. Lokesh Singh and Dr. Gilkes when he visited here and Jubilee was asked to be the facilitating producers . In other words we liaise with the Guyanese producers Gen Madhoo and Michael Gilkes himself. The Guyanese community here through their Association headed by Edward Harris and Jubilee who are experienced in organising theatre production would help and that's how we became involved.”

Mr. Lee says the play's setting is based in Guyana but the theme is very relevant to the Caribbean development.

“The play is titled “the Last of the Red men” it's a one man play, it is written, directed and performed by Dr. Michael Gilkes himself but it is a very humorous , very funny play but with very serious undertones.”

The play will also be staged over the weekend on Saturday at 8 pm and on Sunday evening at 7 pm. All performances will be held at the Folk Research Centre.
