Monday, June 06, 2005 - Security in prisons around the Caribbean will be
high on the agenda for prison managers at a meeting in Dominica this week.
Director of the Bordelaise Correctional Facility Mr. Hilary Herman is one of the
top prison officials from eleven Caribbean countries participating in the United
Kingdom sponsored conference under the theme “Maximising Our Resources: Planning
for the Future.”
The meeting will also discuss the construction of new prisons in the region and
international standards as they affect regional establishments, the effect of
natural and man-made disasters on prisons and the development of joint training
programmes.
The prison managers meeting is one of a number of such initiatives financed by
the United Kingdom Government. Other programmes include a joint police and
prison course held in Barbados earlier this year and a workshop on control and
restraint techniques conducted in Saint Lucia.
Later this month Operations Manager of the Bordelaise Correctional Facility Mr.
Dommick Soudine will participate in a Security Manager’s Workshop in St. Vincent
and the Grenadines.
