Friday, February 18, 2005 – Governor-General, Her Excellency Dame Pearlette Louisy on Thursday, February 17th, 2005, undertook an official visit to the Children’s Home in Soufriere. The visit coincided with the island’s hosting of a 10-member delegation from the Canada-based, Relief Education and Child Sponsorship (REACH) International.

A charitable organization, REACH International has been assisting children in St. Lucia since 1998. The group arrived on the island on Monday and will be here for six days. While on island, group members, accompanied by Her Excellency, will assist in the refurbishment of the Soufriere Children’s Home.

Director of Human Services and Family Affairs in the Ministry of Health, Clementia Eugene, said the Home was privately operated by Eugenia Faustin, and provided an alternative place of safety for children at risk.

The team’s visit here has been made possible through the collaboration of Government House, the Ministry of Health and the corporate community.
