Monday, December 12, 2005 -
Prime Minister Dr Kenny D. Anthony left the state yesterday for Miami for
discussions with officials of two of the top cruise lines in the USA, Carnival
Cruise Lines and Royal Caribbean International.
For some time now, Government has been concerned about the reduced number of
cruise ships visiting St. Lucia and the Prime Minister is particularly anxious
that Carnival resumes calling at Port Castries.
The Prime Minister hopes to discuss with the companies, not only increasing the
number of calls to St. Lucia, but also how to increase the number of stay-over
visitors from the cruise sector.
Prime Minister Anthony is also anxious to find ways and means of increasing
passenger spending and the disembarkation rate of passengers to St. Lucia.
The Prime Minister also hopes to discuss with the cruise lines opportunities for
increasing the number of St. Lucians employed on the cruise ships belonging to
the two top US cruise lines that call in the Caribbean.
The Prime Minister is accompanied by officials of the St. Lucia Air and Sea
Ports Authority and he returns to the island on Wednesday.
