Wednesday, September 22, 2004 - Minister for Health, Human Services, Family Affairs and Gender Relations, Hon. Damian Greaves is to represent St. Lucia at the 56th session of the Directing Council of the Pan American Health Organisation (PAHO).

At the meeting, two important agenda items are down for discussion - programme policy and the financial instruments of the organisation.

The week-long meeting will also focus on the Millennium Health Goals and Targets; access to medicines; scaling up of the regional HIV/AIDS response; International Health Regulations and reports of the Advisory Council on Health Research.

While in Washington the Minister will meet his CARICOM colleagues at the Annual Caucus of CARICOM Ministers of Health from September 26, 2004. This meeting takes place prior to the PAHO Summit.

The Ministers are to review the Regional Response for HIV/AIDS, CARICOM Cooperation on Health, CARICOM Commission on Health and Development and issues pertaining to education, registration and accreditation of health professionals and institutions in the sub region.

Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Health, Human Services, Family Affairs and Gender Relations Hon. Jon Odlum will act as Minister from September 24th to October 20th, 2004.
